JRI Year: 2021

2021

Background

Like many states responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, Iowa criminal justice stakeholders implemented changes to maintain public health and safety. In the spring of 2021, Iowa leaders undertook a Justice Reinvestment Initiative with the CSG Justice Center to conduct a targeted analysis of Iowa’s criminal justice responses implemented during the pandemic, understand the potential impact on public safety and community-based corrections operations, and determine whether the state should continue or enhance revocation-reduction efforts. This effort is ongoing.1

Other JRI-Funded Projects

In Iowa, in partnership with the CSG Justice Center, the state committed to a system-level approach to better data across their criminal justice system and received intensive short-term technical assistance as a Founding State in the Justice Counts initiative.
